Choosing the right Art Therapist
Updated: Oct 14, 2020
The ANZACATA website therapist directory is the best place to start looking for a suitably qualified therapist for your needs. To practice in Australia, Art Therapists are required to register with ANZACATA, the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association. ANZACATA approves training for Creative Arts Therapists to ensure rigorous standards are maintained, sets the ethical guidelines by which Creative Arts Therapists must abide by and monitors ongoing professional development and supervision of therapists. The ANZACATA directory enables you to look up providers in your area or find a provider who uses a particular therapeutic modality, for example: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Analytic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. You will also be able to select a therapist who has experience working with a particular cohort, for example: couples, young people, children, families, professionals, or specific mental health conditions.
Creative Arts Therapists in Australia are required to complete a two-year full-time Master level qualification in addition to prior qualifications and experience in visual arts with preference given to education or counselling backgrounds.
